Overview
tIhoS pagh’lan Station is a composite effort by the Federation and the Klingon Empire, built into the extraordinarily durable spaceframe left behind by the Rish-Natal. It maintains a standard orbit approximately 100,000 kilometers from the rimward edge of the local asteroid field.
The station is 55 light years away from the nearest Federation outpost, Starbase 30. Travel time at cruising speed (Warp 6 for most Starfleet vessels) is about 50 days. There is a communication delay of 15 minutes between it and Starbase 30.
The nearest Klingon colony, Daq SuD QaQ, is much closer at 32 light years and includes a communications array. The travel time to that planet is 30 days away at Warp 6. The communications delay is 7 minutes.
The Gorn have the closest communications array at 21 light years and the closest colony at 27 light years. Travel time to the colony world Sussell is 25 days at Warp 6. The communications delay to their government is a mere 5 minutes.
History
Formerly the property of the Rish-Natal Combine, this station is one of 16 similar facilities that border the Vast. When the Rish-Natal evacuated their stations in 2297, they gutted them of everything but the basic spaceframe.
After the signing of the Vast Pact in 2298, the Federation and Klingons spent two years refurbishing the station of the standards of the day, and civilians were invited to occupy the massive structure in order to mine the nearby asteroid field. The Gorn agreed to haul away waste from ore processing in returns for prime mining rights in the sector.
As part of the Vast Pact, it was agreed that the station’s administration would be led in five year shifts between Starfleet and the Imperial Klingon Defense Forces (IKDF).
However, within a few short years, the “gold rush” was over, and the easily available elements had been mined out. The population of the station dropped precipitously after the last significant station refit in 2312. It became viewed as a punishment detail in Starfleet and the IKDF, and less and less resources were devoted to it by those powers. The Gorn, however, continued to send their best and brightest to their first intragalactic posting.
Today, tIhoS pagh’lan Station is an aging hulk, underpopulated and underserviced, with Starfleet and the IKDF trying to manage an increasingly desperate and rough-edged crowd of schemers, miners, dreamers, criminals, and lunatics.
