“We Bear Witness” (Season 1, Episode 2)

Summary

After a month of tedium and boredom, Admiral Clarke informs Captain Harrison that the crew is going to be installing and testing a duckblind on tihoS pagh’lan II so that a Federation science team can observe the natives.

As the Captain decides how to organize the mission, Dr. Sivak is in sickbay, where he is giving Ensign Pretorius a physical. He shows the ensign images of attractive human males, announces that he’s a closeted homosexual from a strict religious background, advises him to seek therapy, and dismisses him, much to Dr. Saharov‘s horror.

Nurse Alephyam invites Sivak to a group social, and he declines gracelessly. In the meantime, Saharov tries to console the ensign. Unfortunately, due to Saharov’s poor reputation, Ensign Pretorius reacts angrily, and accuses Saharov of doing secret experiments with Nova. The ensign takes a swing at Saharov, trips, and breaks his nose in the fall. He proceeds to blame Saharov for it, and calls for help, claiming Saharov intends to dissect him.
