Nova Kolath puqbe’

Lt.Cmdr. Nova is the child of a mixed Human/Vulcan mother and a Klingon father. She was raised on Starbase 47, a Federation relay station noted for its scientific research.

Nova is known as a key figure in the new scientific field known as “astroevolution,” the study of lifeforms that either evolve to naturally survive in space or evolve in space itself. However, her work in that field has been cast in doubt by her mentor, Professor Etan Lanok of Trill, who has published several papers disavowing her role in the creation of that science.

Combined with a known history of skirting regulations in the pursuit of her research, her aggressive ambition, questionable social skills, and a tendency towards insubordination, Nova has been assigned to the Stalwart as a last chance to prove her value as a Starfleet officer.

OS 2312.82: Cadet Nova is reprimanded for striking a fellow cadet.

OS 2313.11: Cadet Nova is reprimanded for telling a fellow cadet she’d like to dissect their corpse.

OS 2313.61: Cadet Nova is commended for her paper, “Analysis of Genomic Deviations in Crossbreeding Species with Differing Hematypes.”

OS 2314.92: Cadet Nova is reprimanded for not following laboratory protocols.

OS 2314.93: Cadet Nova is commended for her paper, “Theories on Warp-Capability in Biological Entities.”

OS 2316.71: Cadet Nova is assigned to the U.S.S. Endeavour for her cadet cruise.

OS 2319.21: Ensign Nova is assigned to work with Dr. Etan Lanok on the subject of species evolving either in space or from planets to survive in space without technological assistance.

OS 2322.57: Nova is promoted to Lieutenant, junior grade.

0.4: Lt. (jg) Nova is reprimanded for publicly calling the new stardate system “really stupid” during Admiral Supak’s speech at Earth Spacedock.

89.32: Lt. (jg) Nova publishes, “Exothermic Reactions in Space-Dwelling Lifeforms,” a paper which generates an enormous amount of controversy.

2089.32: In recognition of her continued scientific research, Nova is promoted to Lieutenant.

4089.32: In recognition of her assistance in pacifying a mineral-based lifeform on Hokan IV, Nova is promoted to Lieutenant Commander.

5419.56: Lt.Cmdr. Nova publishes a paper claiming she invented the term “astroevolution,” which is viewed as many as an attempt to steal credit from her longtime mentor, Dr. Lanok. Lanok demands a retraction and apology.

5419.87: Lt. Cmdr. Nova is brought before the Federation Science Council to defend her claims. The Council rules that “astroevolution” is Dr. Lanok’s work, and Nova is censured.

5420.23: Lt. Cmdr. Nova is reprimanded for continuing to publish articles slandering Dr. Lanok.

5421.65: Lt. Cmdr. Nova is reprimanded for actively bypassing laboratory safety in what her commanding officer states is “a flagrant violation of scientific ethics targeting Dr. Etan Lanok.”

6455.11: Lt. Cmdr. Nova is required to undergo sensitivity training, due to various interactions with her crew. She is temporarily assigned to the Daystrom Institute thereafter.

7739.73: Lt. Cmdr. Nova is confined to quarters on the Horizon after getting into an explosive argument with several crewmates that nearly escalates into violence.

7807.02: Lt. Cmdr. Nova is transferred to the U.S.S. Stalwart to act as Science Officer.

8159.33: Lt. Cmdr. Nova is charged with several violations of the Federation’s Charter of Rights and Freedoms, failure to obey a direct order, and conduct unbecoming a Starfleet officer. The charges are later dropped by her commanding officer, due to exigent circumstances, as they were officially taking place during a time of war between the Federation and a classified species.
